A Couple of Universal Fashion Truths

Fashion is one of the best things about being human. We are the only species that covers ourselves as a means of self expression and to make our place in society obvious to everyone around us. But fashion is about more than just how we stepped out of the caves and immediately set out to differentiate ourselves from other people. It’s about making ourselves look and feel our very best, and showing off the best parts of our personalities without having to constantly talk. After all, there’s talking the talk (which makes you look like you’re bragging), and then there’s walking the walk. You already know which one people really respond to in this world.

For men, the idea is to progress as far out of nakedness as possible. Since men’s ornamentation is to be well maintained and in control of themselves, what you wear needs to be both covering and restrained. Men don’t need to be flashy, as it’s as much about showing that you can be subtle and quietly powerful as it is about being high energy and boisterous. At the same time, men are expected to wear more as their social status climbs. Boys wear simple outfits, whereas the most successful men tend to wear tastefully full suits in most situations.

Women, on the other hand, may apply their fashion tendencies in one of two ways. Traditionally, women have been able to fall back on “less is more,” and show off their bodies selectively. But in the modern day, they can also subscribe to the masculine vision of fashion sense, where they can show off their self control without making their fertility and sexuality into an advertisement. Less is more implies that a woman has only her body- but in a world where women can be as rich and successful as men, showing off “the goods” is no longer of that much importance. The best thing women have now is a choice.
